ABOUT

Julius Schepansky is an emerging concert artist with extensive international touring experience and a wide-ranging repertoire spanning Baroque to electroacoustic music, including works written expressly for him. He has appeared at major venues such as MÜPA Budapest, the Wiener Konzerthaus, Konserthuset Stockholm, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, and L’Auditori Barcelona, and at festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Heidelberger Frühling, and Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker. His performances have been featured in live national and international radio broadcasts. A dedicated chamber musician, Schepansky collaborates regularly with bassoonist Mathis Stier and has appeared with him in recitals presented by the European Concert Hall Organization. Recent highlights include a memorial recital for composer Alcides Lanza at McGill University, as well as invitations to perform with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra under James Kahane and with the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne under Jean-Michaël Lavoie. He has commissioned new acoustic and electroacoustic works from composers in Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Upcoming engagements include his solo debut at the Philharmonie Essen, featuring world and European premieres, and five premieres at the New Music Festival 2027 at the University of Toronto. A laureate of the Nachwuchsförderpreis NRW (2017) and a scholarship holder of the German Music Competition (2018), Schepansky studied with Claudia Buder, completed his bachelor’s degree with Mie Miki, and spent a year studying with Geir Draugsvoll. He completed his Master’s degree—cited as exceptional—in 2025 at the Université de Montréal under Joseph Petric, supported by a scholarship from Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Montréal. An accomplished jazz pianist and composer, he also studies privately with New York–based pianist Glenn Zaleski. He has participated in programs such as Canada’s Lunenburg Academy of Performing Arts and the Canadian Career Development Performance Apprenticeship (CDPA). His current artistic interests include progressive jazz and musicological research on facsimile manuscripts by J.S. Bach, D. Scarlatti, and C.P.E. Bach. Originally from Germany, Schepansky is based in Montreal and maintains an active career across Europe and North America.
